How to Grow Your Business Through Google Reviews

In today’s hyper-connected world, a strong online presence is key to business success. Among the long list of digital marketing tools available, Google reviews stand out as invaluable assets in shaping consumer perception and driving growth – with no financial commitment from you. (Yes, Google reviews are totally free!)

By building a stellar reputation through online reviews, you can establish trust with potential customers. It helps you foster brand loyalty and also drive revenue growth. While there are plenty of review websites online, Google is still the #1 search engine where customers read reviews from the general population. The reviews influence customers online and also impact your search engine rankings. Ultimately, these Google reviews can make or break your business. Therefore, it’s crucial to pay attention to them.

What Exactly Are Google Reviews?

Google reviews are published ratings and customer comments on the Google search engine platform that appear linked to your Google Business Profile. Before, during, or after a customer’s experience with your business, they have an opportunity to leave public feedback. This includes a star rating and commentary to share their positive or negative feedback and experiences online.

There are rules for customers to share their reviews online. Google requires that all reviews are based on personal experiences related to the business. The reviews must show respect to all parties involved. Spam reviews that include fake content or reviews that include personal information will be removed. Additionally, businesses are not allowed to offer any sort of incentive in exchange for reviews. Simple rules – but rules are rules!

Are Google Reviews Important for SEO?

For search engine optimization (also known as SEO), Google reviews are very important! Google reviews impact your local search rankings most noticeably. Therefore, it’s essential to gather as many positive reviews as possible. The more reviews you have, the more visible you make your business in search results. The more positive those reviews are, the more you stand out from your competitors and grow the interest of your potential customers.

Why Utilize Google Reviews for Your Business

With millions of users relying on Google’s platform for recommendations and insights, harnessing the power of positive feedback can significantly impact your business’s visibility and credibility. Furthermore, every review you gain over time builds even more trust in your business…so don’t delay in collecting those reviews!

Keep Your Google Business Profile Up-to-Date

Google Business Profile is a feature on Google that truly showcases your business. It is the best tool alongside your website to keep your potential customers up-to-date with information about your business. The most relevant information includes your address, phone number, hours of operation, and special photos and posts to show off your business. Your Google Reviews are highlighted prominently in this Google feature for those clicking around online to get the best snapshot of your business.

Ask for Reviews

Call, text, email, social media, in-person…whatever way you interact with your customers, be sure to ask, ask, ask for reviews!

Who are your best customers? They are going to be the best people to ask for reviews. If you have a regular that visits your restaurant, ask them as you drop off the bill to write a review before they leave. When you have someone who has ordered from your online store two or three times, email them the link to also review your business on Google. If you’re sending text messages to customers regularly, start a campaign to ask for reviews.

Bottom line: you won’t get the best reviews without asking. Just remember that it’s against Google’s rules to incentivize customers to leave reviews.

Make It Simple for Customers to Leave Reviews

You can create and share the link for customers to leave reviews directly through your Google Business Profile listing. Google Business Profile encourages you to use the link in thank you emails, at the end of any chat interactions, and in your digital receipts.

To access the link to share, visit your Google Business Profile

In your dashboard, select “Ask For Reviews.”

Once you select that option, you will have access to copy and paste your review link as well as send directly through multiple platform options. It’s that easy!

Respond To Your Reviews

All-in-all, reviews are an opportunity to grow your business, right? Take advantage of the opportunity to connect with your customers who are taking the time out of their day to provide you with valuable feedback. Replies help build trust in your business’s brand as they are public – and they remind your potential customers that you are human. (Big tip: don’t use AI to reply to reviews!)

Positive reviews are the best! We ALL love seeing positive feedback and supporting businesses online. However, if the reviewer shares something that you don’t agree with, it’s in your control to respond in a professional, polite manner and make sure they feel heard regarding their concerns. Whatever is shared in the review may be something you were/weren’t aware of that needs to be addressed in your business. There is always a possibility that the negative reviews are coming from “keyboard warriors,” but it’s up to you to still respond appropriately. If you consistently get negative feedback in your Google reviews, consider that there may be room for improvement in your business.

Show Off Your Google Reviews

You earned it! The positive reviews you receive on Google should be highlighted. If you know the individual who wrote the review, ask their permission to share their Google review on social media. The Google review can turn into a genuine testimonial that you can share for many weeks, months, and years to come. It’s an opportunity to build your connection with your customers online and beyond.
